The last fixture to be played and the final two teams meet before the conclusion of Matchday 13 in the English Premier League. What’s installed for us in Monday Night Football?

Both Aston Villa and Newcastle need a win in tonight’s meeting. The former just about hovering above the drop zone in 17th place. While the latter worked harder to stay further away from the relegation depths in 14th place.

After Norwich and Southampton pulled off shock results over the weekend, the two aforementioned clubs squaring off tonight needs to react well in order to keep from taking those relegation spots from them.

Aston Villa and their run to Matchday 13

More from Aston Villa

Villa has been far from convincing over the course of this Premier League campaign. Their return has not been a smiling welcome and doesn’t seem to get any easier as the weekends of football passes by.

In their most recent attempts at EPL life, they’ve gone three without a win. Why? They had the hard task of going up against the previous PL champions Man City, followed by a showing against the current log leaders, Liverpool.

No team wants to endure such an asking, neither could any team overcome such a tall order. However, afore this chain of misery they were on quite the joyful sprint. An unbeaten run of three against the likes of Burnley, Norwich, and Brighton saw the Villians score nine goals and only conceded four, but collect 7 points from the nine available.

This stat then flipped quickly when they duelled the big guns. They went on to let in five goals and only score a measly two. This displays the turbulent Premier League season this club has had, but it has to be said, they haven’t curled up and shied away from big tasks.

Newcastle’s run of 12 games

Steve Bruce’s side has come up with some pretty good results during their 12 PL outings. Their recent run of games before the international break saw a reverse outcome for them compared to the hosts. They are unbeaten in their last three games, drawing once, and winning two.

Their best results and something they can continue to look back at to give them confidence, they’ve already taken down the likes of Tottenham and Man United. Sadly for the visitors, they’ve been dismal on the road, and have only been able to take three points when playing away from home from the 12 up for grabs.

Aston Villa vs. Newcastle

Newcastle owns this fixture. The visiting team has not lost a clash between them in the last 12 meetings. Making matters worse, the Villians are winless in the last six home ties against the Toons.

This gives little hope to Dean Smith and hands Bruce and boys all the motive in the world to take all the spoils. The best Villa can hope for is that a drop in form occurred, due to the international break.

Next. Who will be the next EPL manager to go?. dark

With all being said… I’m very in favour of a Newcastle win and anticipating an extremely well-contested matchup between the pair.
