The English Premier League returned with Matchday 13 and it was more of the same for Arsenal and manager Unai Emery when they drew at the Emirates 2-2 with Southampton.

Arsenal left it till late to secure a point on Saturday when they faced off against one of the three clubs in the relegation zone. They played a completely out-of-form Saints side. Besides them only securing a point at home, during the 90 minutes the Gunners went down on two occasions.

In both halves, Southampton drew blood first and then went ahead for a second time in the second half. Thankfully, one of the deadly Gunners upfront shot a brace in the game, which was just enough to save a point.

This is brought undesirable attention to Unai Emery

The Gunners bad start to the season has brought so much unwanted attention to Unai Emery. Talks of him losing the dressing room plus the fans have circulated throughout this tough time.

They currently sit in 7th place in the Premier League standings, two places above North London rivals Tottenham (9th place), and three spots above old rivals, Man United (10th place).  Doesn’t seem like a bad spotting, however, losses to Sheffield United and Leicester City delivered Unai this unwanted stream of events.

Other results adding to the worry in the Gunners’ performances over the first 13 outings were draws to Watford, Crystal Palace, Wolves, and most recently, Southampton. Only four points collected from a possible 18 in these fixtures alone, creating a loss of 14 points.

Their current stock of 18 points plus the other 14 points which were lost, would put them comfortably in second place on 32 points, just five off the leaders Liverpool. Making this stat even more worrying, they’ve now gone five games without a victory, and have only won three games in their last 10 across all competitions, including their EFL Cup exit by the hands of the Reds.

Calls for Arteta and Howe

A list of managers will always come forth, but there are two names popping up all over, Mikel Arteta and Eddie Howe. Arsenal fans have cried the name Massimiliano Allegri, but this is that wish you will only have come true if Santa knows you’ve been a good boy or girl.

It is said Alexandre Lacazette’s late equaliser was a saving grace for Unai, but his numbered days are fewer than most think they are. It’s been further reported, the Arsenal board have been split in their decision on Emery, but are coming closer to reaching an agreement.

Next. Are Liverpool pretty much already PL champions?. dark

With a heavy fixture list coming thick and fast for the Emirates crew, action needs to be taken. If no action happens, there will be very little to save this season. Champions League football plus Europa League football is in jeopardy and sometimes waiting too long could be detrimental to your league campaign.
