Shock transfer link: Liverpool’s Adam Lallana is a possible target for PSG
It’s that time of life for Adam Lallana as he reaches the latter stages of his footballing career. Does the Liverpool midfielder look for regular game time, or is an off-the-bench role a better option?
The Englishman who forms part of one of the many Southampton trade-ins has fallen down the order in team selection. Jurgen Klopp who was a Lallana fan after just arriving in 2015, appears to have only needed him for a large part of the beginning stages.
Yes, there is a huge chunk of this period during the Klopp era that went by with him spending most of his days on the sideline, injured. We could argue before the mid man underwent many sideline spells, he was probably one of the better midfielders at the club.
Sadly for him, Klopp has moved on and operated carefully to get world-class and class first-teamers, as well as suitable backup all capable of fighting for top honours. He has sculptured this Liverpool team without the thought of a Lallana role.
Funny enough, with all being said… Since he’s had a longer time being fit, of late, he’s been used off the bench often and added his name to the narrative of this season’s title race and the Reds unbeaten run of 12 games.
He scored one of Liverpool’s late and instrumental goal in their old rivalry clash between them and Man United. It was a decisive goal which claimed a point, even though they were seconds away from suffering their first defeat.
Lallana’s stats (across all competitions)
Games Played – 8
Minutes Played – 294 minutes
Starts – 3
Coming off from the bench – 4
Goals – 1
Assists – 0
It’s easy to see that Lallana has done his bit coming off from the bench and playing as a third fiddle to the more fitting Klopp switches. Having taken part in the EFL Cup and little cameos coming off from the bench in the league, it’s fair to say there’s no chance of him breaking into the first or second 11 as a constant.
His experience Klopp uses to his advantage, but not sure if he Adam feels this is best suited for him at his age of 31-years-old. Most players who are not after money (Adam Lallana is certainly not after money) and want to play as much football as possible use this as the calling card. The calling card, it’s time to move on from their current suitors.
Adam’s PSG link
"Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly interested in signing Liverpool star Adam Lallana. The Ligue 1 champions are claimed to be looking at the 31-year-old as a potential replacement for Edinson Cavani who is being linked with a move to LA Galaxy.According to The Mirror, Lallana is on the radar of the French outfit, with the midfielder’s current contract at the club set to expire next summer. If this was the transfer on the cards, this wouldn’t exactly change his fate. He wouldn’t walk into PSG starting 11 or sit as a first-choice backup, considering they too have the money to fund any sort of world-beaters in the middle of the park.
According to The Mirror (who issued the initial reports of the link), PSG have added the Englishman to their wish list after seeing attacker Edison Cavani leave for the USA. He heads to America to fill in for the revitalised Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
How a striker leaving PSG makes space for a midfielder/attacking and box-to-box, still gets me. Nonetheless, Lallana would be a decent transfer for any team. He has his expert level in Cruyff turns and will chip in with goals, along with assists.
Hopefully, a big-money offer comes in from somewhere and he gets what he is looking for. His Liverpool deal will be over at the end of the season. His options will increase with time.
