Liverpool: Adam Lallana was never backed by the public to score
It was another point shared after Liverpool’s trip to Old Trafford ended with the score 1-1. Adam Lallana’s late tap in was the difference between one point and no points for the Reds.
Liverpool saved their unbeaten record but lost their 100% account when they met their oldest foes for the first meeting between the couple. Liverpool were eight points aloft at the top while Man United simmered in hot water close to relegation in 14th place, a few points from safety.
It was not the best performance by the visiting team, as we see them struggle away from home once again. The log leaders went down after controversial officiating by the match official, Martin Atkinson. This, according to the Liverpool public and some pundits.
In the wake of this Klopp had to act
Klopp had to redesign and shuffle around his squad, forcing him to turn to the bench. Removing captain Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum, and Divock Origi for the likes of Adam Lallana, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was the call from the boss. It automatically saw a shift in power.
Of the subs, Lallana was the most frowned upon. Even on social media he was doubted and laughed at for Klopp looking to him for a goal. FT Twitter had their say on the matter. Jurgen Klopp with another “W”, showing why he is one of the world’s best managers.
Adam Lallana’s 85th-minute tap in
How to silence the stadium and the world? Come on the pitch and score the equalising goal for your club away from home. It was the most unlikely source for Liverpool but one effective enough to see them through and save a point in their quest for Premier League sovereignty.
"“We’re not going to need just eleven…” Adam Lallana hadn’t scored since May 2017 but he rescued a point at Old Trafford, and delivered a positive Jurgen Klopp will need in this title chase. (via: Optus Sports – Twitter)"
Judging by the tweets, many believe the Reds has nothing in their locker beside the starting 11 on the pitch. However, each time when important figures became unavailable, the backups have stepped in seamlessly, going above and beyond to make sure Liverpool gets something out of each fixture.
Klopp’s side has so far kept up with the demand
Lallana’s inclusion, along with Keita proves Klopp has to think about changing things around and utilize the entire squad. Give more opportunities to those waiting on the bench. A trip to Belgium is up next for Jurgen and his Liverpool squad.
They take on Genk, a team who are the worst conceding team in Group E. This is the perfect match to go and use players that were not available due to injury. After the short journey to Belgium, they back to Premier League action and have another mouthwatering clash against Spurs in another huge Super Sunday event.
Rest players and have them souped-up for a clash they must take all the points as it takes place in the stronghold Anfield. Klopp must be braver in his time where he and the club decided to make no transfers.
Another point to the story? Does Liverpool have a squad worthy of playing for gold all fronts or not?
