Leicester City keeping the Premier League top of the table interesting
Brendan Rodgers and his Leicester City team capped off their fourth win of the season to take them up into third place in the Premier League standings.
The Foxes pulled off the best win of the weekend, as well as their best performance to date under the Irishman, Brendan Rodgers. King Power Stadium was rocking on Saturday past when Vardy and teammates collected another three points after they put five past Newcastle.
To add to the drubbing of the Magpies, City never conceded a single goal. This is their first clean sheet for the season. This was part of the problem when just joining and something Rodgers must clamp down on if he is to achieve the number one goal this campaign, ending in the top six.
There have been many debates regarding Rodgers and the Foxes, and whether they will be in the top six or top four by the end of the season. After seven games played it looks as if they are well on their way to proving those wrong who doubted their squad and manager. More doubt was cast after losing their star defender and England international, Harry Maguire,

Chasing Liverpool and Man City
Leicester has done more than just keep up with their goal of reaching a European spot. They’ve actually managed to keep up with the top two clubs in the English Premier League. Liverpool and Man City were always the two going up for the title, with Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea, having an outside chance of maybe causing an upset.
In a turn of events, none of the above mentioned (besides Liverpool and Man City) are coming to the party while Vardy and co continue their party. The King Power side has collected 14 points since the start of the season.
They’ve now put themselves within touching distance from first and second place, respectively. They sit seven points off first-placed Liverpool and two points off second-placed Man City. Running in behind the three are the surprise package, West Ham. The two keeps Tottenham, Chelsea and United out of the top four for another week.
The next test a big one for Brendan Rodgers
The next trial for the Foxes sends them to Anfield to take up the Liverpool challenge. Besides the fact of it being predecessor versus successor, it’s a strong opportunity to be the first team to give the Reds a knock or steal some points.
If they managed this feat, they’d be serious contenders and will have changed the two-horse race into a three-horse race. They will close the gap, and inevitably help Man City get closer to defending their Premier League title.
