Premier League August accolades – What a debut season for Teemu Pukki
The recall for Premier League and club action has been made. Matchday five is here and the cream of the crop have been announced for the month of August.
It was a fantastic opening four fixtures to the Premier League. Some things bang on the same as the season ended off the last term, and other things new and surprising. Of the English big six clubs, only one club proved elite with an award from the opening month of the EPL 2019/20 season.
Things remaining the same is Liverpool and Man City’s dominance with their football on the pitch and lead the log as expected. Out of the ordinary, Leicester City and Crystal Palace boast noteworthy starts to the campaign, with both clubs sitting in the top four, third and fourth place, respectively.
Other weird things to happen in the English league so far are Watford and Wolves poor start to their EPL run. Sometimes not all things repeat themselves. Or as the saying goes, all good things come to an end.
August’s Premier League awards
EPL Player of the Month – Teemu Pukki
Such a shame his team are sitting second-last in the log standings. Almost doesn’t justify this debutant’s flying start to life in England’s Top Flight. The forward has contributed to six goals in Norwich City’s first four outings. He’s scored five and assisted one.
Sadly, the best player for August was only able to manage one win. His best performance came against Newcastle where they took the three points and he took the match ball home. He scored four goals in three consecutive games since the opening day. Great job!
EPL Manager of the Month – Jurgen Klopp
There was only one way the German manager or Pep Guardiola was getting this award. That was by winning all of the opening encounters, collect maximum points, all while taking down one of their top-six rivals.
Both clubs, Liverpool and Man City were top-six tested, with the former doing the business on the pitch. Liverpool have won four, scored 12 and have only conceded three in the process. This is the fourth time Jurgen Klopp has received the award and now equals the record of former Red, Rafa Benitez.
EPL Goal of the Month – Harvey Barnes
The Leicester City gem continuous to impress as the seasons go on. Great on Rodgers to trust in the squad and especially in the likes of Harvey Barnes. His award-winning goal came in the Foxes’ 2-1 victory over newcomers, Sheff. United in the 70th minute of the game.
A well-timed volley just on the edge of the box, showcasing his ability, technic and power in one shot. Great goal to take all the spoils away from home. He has helped Brendon and Leicester to third place in the Premier League standings.
