Defensive Picks

Oleksandr Zinchenko (DEF, 5.6m, Norwich away)

Following the awful injury suffered by Laporte last week, FPL managers will be looking for a replacement and asking themselves if this will impact City’s clean sheet potential.

It obviously will have some impact, losing your best centre back always does! However, given a lot of City’s defensive prowess comes from not letting the opposition have the ball (Pep was clearly not taught to share as a child), I’m expecting the clean sheets to keep rolling in.

Which gives us Zinchenko as the easy swap, providing an extra 1.0m cash you can spend elsewhere and a player who has played every minute of City’s campaign so far!

Steer Clear

Patrick Van Aanholt (DEF, 5.6m, Tottenham away)

I have a lot of FPL love for Van Aanholt, it’s difficult not to like a defender with a decent goal scoring record! However, have you seen those fixtures! Palace’s defence ranks 3rd bottom for the next 6 weeks and rock bottom for the next 10.

They play 5 of the top 6 in that “longer” run, plus a difficult trip to West Ham and hosting Leicester. The Dutch wing-back will not get many points for a while!
