Highly-rated Manchester United youngster Mason Greenwood showed his class and quality on Saturday, scoring a beautiful winning goal in a friendly vs Inter.

It was a long-awaited call to action for highly-rated English striker Mason Greenwood on Saturday, as he earned the chance to impress for Manchester United in their friendly against Inter Milan, coming off the bench to score the winning goal.

Greenwood is one of the most highly rated young forwards in world football, and at just 17, he is only now starting to make his baby steps into senior football. Of course, his youth career has been prolific at all levels, with the Bradford-born forward scoring 31 times and adding 9 assists in just 30 matches in last seasons U18 Premier League. You would expect him to take another step up this season, perhaps playing in the U23’s or featuring here and there in the first-team squad.

His winning goal against Inter was nothing short of sublime, as he picked up a loose ball on the edge of the box, cut inside hard on his left foot, and fired home. He nearly added a 2nd goal just a few minutes after, as he looped a shot off the top of the crossbar after some excellent work from fellow youngster Tahith Chong, who also impressed in the match.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had some high praise for Greenwood after the match, but also warned people not to over-do their expectations for the youngster:

"“The kid’s only 17 and he’s learning every day, training with these boys, he’s been with us the last few months and he’s grown in confidence, he’s grown in stature…but we’ve got to keep our feet on the ground with him, know that he’s only 17 and there will be ups and downs but he’s enjoying his football.”"

It’s safe to say that Manchester United have a stellar young forward in their ranks in Mason Greenwood, but if you’re expecting to see a lot of him this season, then you’re getting too far ahead of yourself. His potential is clear, and it’s world-class, but for now, he must continue working on his game behind-the-scenes.
