Manchester City’s long-time maestro has announced that this coming season will be his last at the Etihad, after 10 years of successful service for his team.

David Silva has planned his exit perfectly. After joining Manchester City from Valencia in 2010, Silva has shown his dominance with vision in the midfield throughout his career with the Cityzens, and is now set to depart the club next summer, following his 10th season at the Etihad. The 33 year-old has made 395 appearances, won four Premier League titles, two FA Cups and four League Cups and finished this season off with a domestic treble. Though, his hardware spans far beyond domestic championships as he lifted the World Cup and two European Championship titles. His relationship with manager Pep Guardiola has been excellent and was evident during his final few seasons with the club.

"“No, this is the last one,” he replied when asked if he could stay beyond this season. “10 years for me is enough. It’s the perfect time for me”. “Initially, City were talking about two years, but I decided to sign another one, so I finished at 10 years. “It completes the cycle. It’s a nice round figure. I can never see myself playing against City for another team. So 10 years – that’s it.”"

Silva notes that he can never see himself playing against Man City for another team so the question whether he will play again in the Premier League is out the window. However, with the exit of their star and leader in midfield looming next summer, City will not suffer greatly due to the stars they already have. Bernardo Silva’s role with the club has been steadily climbing, along with De Bruyne, and Fernandinho, so that leaves city with plenty of options and players to work with. Not to mention how versatile City’s midfield is-even without David Silva, it’s one of the reasons City won the title for the second straight time.

My prediction is that Pep Guardiola will rotate Bernardo Silva in and out of central midfield depending on the game. Aguero, and Jesus will always be staying up front while Sterling and De Bruyne will accompany on the wings as usual. I wouldn’t be surprised to see De Bruyne in and out of central midfield, but I don’t think it will happen often.

David Silva’s departure next summer is lined up perfectly indeed, and he will be missed, leaving behind a massive legacy that he established. Congratulations.
