Chelsea: Olivier Giroud hands another year to the Bridge after contract renewal
On Tuesday afternoon Chelsea announced the contract renewal of striker Olivier Giroud. The news should be taken as good news, considering their transfer ban.
The Blues from Stamford Bridge must do everything in their power to keep their best players at the club, that’s barring Eden Hazard and his move to Real Madrid.
The contract renewal keeps the France international at Stamford Bridge for another year. Both the club and the player were happy that he preferred to extend his stay in London.
Olivier told the club’s website;
"I am very happy to sign a new contract. I really wanted to stay at least one more year – I have felt a part of the team, the family, since the beginning and hopefully there will be more trophies to come.More from Chelsea“600 days” Fans make SHOCK Chelsea revelation – They really are poorChelsea injury news: Most expensive midfielder is a doubt vs Aston VillaChelsea: Mauricio Pochettino mandates a “ridiculous offer” to sell defenderWhen should Chelsea start to panic about Mauricio Pochettino?Chelsea: HUGE boost as Pochettino starts “world-class” midfielder today"
The season is all but over for Maurizio Sarri after placing third in the Premier League standings. A testing dispute between them and London nemesis, Arsenal awaits come next Wednesday.
The striker’s contribution has been second to none, scoring 12 and assisting seven this season for Chelsea across all competitions, and 10 of those coming in the Europa League alone. The Chelsea director was especially pleased with his benefaction in Europe.
Director Marina Granovskaia praised Giroud by saying;
"We are very pleased that Olivier will be a Chelsea player for another season. Since joining us 18 months ago, he has at times had to be patient and wait for opportunities, but has still been able to make a positive contribution to the team.Whether it is his unselfish link-up play or his 10 Europa League goals this season, he has been a crucial member of the squad and we hope he will be able to pick up a second Chelsea winner’s medal in Baku later this month to accompany last season’s FA Cup win."
There is no doubting when Olivier Giroud is on the pitch he has a strong presence on it. At 32-years-old he provides great experience and is a real goal threat. Hopefully, this can serve as a major lift for the player and he continues his fine form in front of goal on the European stage, and aids his club to Europa gold!
