With the 2018-19 Premier League season wrapping up, we can now look back on the transfers that took place last summer and rate them properly.

The Premier League is one of the toughest leagues in the world. Nowhere else are there 6 teams who (arguably) have a realistic shot at the title before it kicks off! Because of this, and the immense financial rewards on offer for success, nowhere else is there such pressure on new transfers to hit the ground running. The history of the Premier League is littered with failed big money moves (Shevchenko, Robinho, Veron to name a few), but there are also plenty of players who have come in and made an instant impact on their team. This season has seen plenty of examples of this, so we have come up with a best XI of players new to the league this season:

Goalkeeper

Alisson (Liverpool, €62.5m)

If you’re going to break the world record for a goalkeeper, he needs to be something special (even if that record was subsequently broken a few weeks later), and Alisson has proven himself to be exactly that. Given Liverpool’s history with calamitous goalkeepers – Mignolet and Karius have cost them plenty of points and arguably a Champions League title in recent seasons – it must be a relief for their defence to have such a calm and composed presence behind them.

He is just as comfortable with the ball at his feet starting an attack as he is denying the opposition. No wonder Liverpool have kept a whopping 21 clean sheets in the league this season!
