Manchester United flop Alexis Sanchez is heading to Italy
A year and a half after his disastrous transfer to Manchester United, Alexis Sanchez seems to be on his way out, with multiple Italian clubs interested.
It seems like a long time ago now, when Alexis Sanchez was a key part of Arsenal’s dynamic duo of “Alexis and Ozil”, when he was dominating the Premier League and other competitions under Arsene Wenger’s guidance. His career has become a real case of “be careful what you wish for” since then, as his somewhat forced move to Manchester United in January 2018 has turned sour, with the former superstar Chilean scoring just 5 goals in 45 matches.
Now, it seems Manchester United are fully ready to let the Chilean walk out the Old Trafford door this summer, with Inter Milan and Juventus emerging as the 2 most likely destinations at this point.
While United are desperate to let him go, his ridiculously high wages are likely to pose a massive problem for their endeavors, as it seems unlikely that any sane club would be willing to pay that after the last 15 months that he’s had. However, United could reportedly be set to actually pay Sanchez to leave, or at least pay a part of his wages, to potentially make a loan move to one of the interested parties.
Both Inter and Juventus have reportedly held positive talks with Alexis’ camp, and are both willing to hash out a deal if the finances are right. Alexis has been under-performing for quite a while, and he is turning 31 later on this year.
Antonio Conte is already lining up targets ahead of his first season at Inter Milan, and Alexis, along with Manchester United teammate Romelu Lukaku, has made the shortlist. These potential move is likely in anticipation of Mauro Icardi’s transfer away from the San Siro.
While Alexis Sanchez still has world-class talent inside him somewhere, it seems unlikely that this will ever come out at Manchester United, especially in their current state. A move to the Serie A could rejuvenate the Chilean, who was lighting up world football just a few years ago.
