Paul Pogba: Two-way street required between players and the United faithful
Frenchman and World Cup winner Paul Pogba was a victim of his own fans’ abuse on the closing day of the Premier League.
Where there is time invested, there is the emotional attachment. Emotions of joy, happiness, sorrow, heartache, anger and rage, all the types of emotion one can express on the football pitch, off it, and as a supporter as well.
The incident involving Paul Pogba and several fans of the club on the touchline expressed the latter of these emotions stated earlier. Fed up with the United midfielder, a fan thought it wise to lash out at their most influential player of the season.
What led to ignorance?
The display at Old Trafford on the day was nothing to cheer about. A 2-0 defeat at the Theatre of Dreams to one of the sides relegated from the Premier League, Cardiff City. There was enough to reason to be outraged, however, the poor show was not Pogba’s fault solely.
The performance was a team effort and a true reflection of what has gone on all season. To add, it’s not just about losing, it’s the manner in which they lose. No desire to fight back as we witnessed on one occasion when Man United knockout PSG out of the Champions League.
No drive to take the game to the opponents. No determination to be the better team on the pitch and in a nutshell, not the “United Way”! This has left a sour taste in the fans’ mouths, knowing they could be looking forward to more disheartening demonstrations. Something they’ve come so accustomed to in the recent past.
A legend came out and agrees things are heading down the drain!
Club legend and social media man, Patrice Evra has come out in talks with Gary Neville. He spoke out on both parties, the fans and the players. Some will agree, some wouldn’t, there will always be a 50/50 split.
Fans should not be attacking their best players. Yet, in the same breath, their best players must be showing up in almost every fixture. One bad game, two bad games? Not a problem. A whole team enjoying a string of bad games. Not acceptable! Attitude on and off the pitch by fans and players need to change over at Old Trafford.
Also, now’s not the time to be pushing away your best players if you are trying still afloat in the Premier League. You too don’t want to be drawing unnecessary attention to the club. Could we be prepping for a Paul Pogba exit from Man United and the Premier League?
