Liverpool faces an upstream swim, followed by a blindfolded hike in the dark, and then eventually ending the triathlon with some shredding on the mountain edge.

This is the task the Reds have left themselves with after going down by three goals and having no answer at the Camp Nou, a week ago in the first leg of the Champions League Semifinals against Barcelona. Messi and co were clinical in possession and made half chances count to its maximum potential.

Taking the game even further away from the Anfield side is the treble injury blow handed to Jurgen Klopp as his side enters a crucial backend of a combative campaign. The trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Naby Keita are all sidelined for the upcoming European clash.

Liverpool will have trouble defending the Catalans’ counter-attack. A 110% defensive effort must be put in by the Reds, as well as a 200% attacking effort. This showcases the problems Liverpool will have scoring three to tie the fixture, and four to book them a place in the finals, all while attempting to stop Barca from scoring.

With all being said, it’s clear to assess how unsympathetic the disadvantage is for Liverpool when the two meet at Anfield on Tuesday for the second and final leg of the CL semi encounter. Yet, there is one kind factor playing in favour of the Reds. That is they are one of the few teams who could mount a serious comeback, even at 3-0 down.

Here are three Liverpool comebacks that come to mind in this time of despair for the Reds.
