It’s another defeat for the Red Devils, a Champions League place is looking unlikely. Gary Neville laid into Manchester United after the club suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Everton.

The wheels are coming off at Old Trafford. United suffered a 4-0 defeat at Goodison Park, they couldn’t match Everton’s desire to win. Gary Neville let his feelings known about certain Manchester United players, who he believes aren’t giving their all for the club. Neville has a point, United have looked woeful in recent weeks.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have managed two goals in their last four matches. They can’t keep the ball out of the net at the other end of the pitch. United conceded three goals in Barcelona and four at Goodison Park. At a glance, this current team looks like one of the worst to play in the club’s colours. Work rate, attitude and commitment are not being applied by the players. Solskjaer must weed out those that aren’t performing, the fans deserve better. Solskjaer’s tenure at Old Trafford started brightly, but things change very quickly in football.

Forget the big earners, the players with millions of social media followers, talent is futile without commitment and the drive to win. United won the league under Sir Alex in 1994. During that season, United came back from a goal down to beat Sheffield Wednesday in ‘Fergie time’ – a seven-minute period, of ‘time’ added on. United never gave up, they kept going until the final whistle. The club did on several occasions, including in the Champions League win over Bayern Munich, in 1999. United’s current squad of players need to stand up and be counted, the season isn’t over yet.

Solskjaer apology

It’s not often that supporters get an apology from their club, but United’s performance deserves one. Solksjaer walked over to the travelling United supporters at the end of the game and apologised to them. The United manager was very clear in his post-match press conference about the dismal performance.

"We have got to apologise to the fans. That performance was not good enough for a Manchester United team – from me to the players. We know we let the fans and the club down. That performance is difficult to describe because it was so bad. They beat us on all the basics. We were beaten on all the ingredients you need, added to your talent, today. As I said last week as well, there is no place to hide on the pitch. It was 85 minutes before we had a shot on target. It’s not good enough. We know that.We just got thumped 4-0 and they [the fans] never moaned at our players. Which they could have done. They have been supportive again and I am sure they will support us on Wednesday night. It is up to us – the players and the staff – to get ourselves ready (via manutd.com)."

United host Man City at Old Trafford on Wednesday. Forget where the league title might go, Wednesday‘s game is about pride and the chance to get back into the top four. Champions League football is an important aspect of the game at Old Trafford. Sir Alex Ferguson didn‘t tolerate mediocrity, nor should Solskjaer.

There have been far too many average performances in Unite’s colours. Nemanja Matic, Marcus Rashford and Scott McTominay were all given match ratings of less than six-out-of-10 by Opta. ItIt will be interesting to see which players will leave Old Trafford in the Summer. United needs an overhaul, don’t blame the gaffer.
