The pint-sized Uruguayan arrived at The Emirates from Sampdoria for an undisclosed fee, believed to be around 25 million pounds.

Torreira had a very good World Cup, and Arsenal fans were quite rightly excited at the prospect of the 23-year-old’s arrival.

A hard-tackling, dogged midfielder, it seemed Lucas Torreira was the player Arsenal had needed for years. A player Wenger had been so reluctant to sign.

He quickly endeared himself to the Arsenal fans, winning challenges and ruffling feathers from the first whistle. He was particularly impressive in the 1-1 draw with Liverpool at the Emirates, dominating the midfield almost single-handedly.

If Arsenal gets in a few new faces this summer and builds their team around Torreira, they could be a real force next season.
