For the player, this is grand news. For the Premier League, not so good news. Reports from France claim Adrien Rabiot is close to signing a pre-agreement with Real Madrid.
If reports are spot on, it could mean the end of the ugliest transfer sagas that’s progressed for the past two transfer windows. Since not accepting new terms with the Parisian club PSG before the January window, the player has been hit with a series of bad events leading up to the fresh account on his future that’s likely to be at Real Madrid.
How it went from bad to worse
The French midfielder was on the verge of signing a pre-contract with other Spanish giants and Real Madrid rivals, Barcelona. However, a deal fell through after his then agent, who is also his mother, couldn’t close a deal. The claims of hers before her own son relieved her of her duties, was that Rabiot’s being held hostage by his parenting club.
After the window shut down, Barcelona pulled out of the race, leaving English clubs Liverpool and Spurs to fight for the central man. It was suggested the player rejected Spurs and was willing to move to Anfield, speaking about his admiration of Reds’ manager Jurgen Klopp. The links and rumours progressed into nothing.
In March the situation got harder for the once PSG star. He was filmed out at a night club directly after their defeat to Man United in the Champions League Round of 16 and immediately it was known he will undoubtedly move on.
The player’s controversy went on, liking posts of ex-United players celebrating the Manchester side’s turnaround in their UCL knockout. What more could you do to force a transfer?
