Callum Hudson-Odoi is a target for Bundesliga giants Bayern
By John Wozniak
Callum Hudson-Odoi burst onto the international scene last week, but his club career at Chelsea looks to be in doubt.
The Daily Mail is reporting that Callum Hudson-Odoi is a target for several clubs, including Bayern Munich. The paper states that Chelsea are do not have plans to extend the teenager’s contract byeond 2020. One reason for Chelsea’s decision could be related to the possibility of a managerial change. Maurizio Sarri doesn’t seem to have the appetite for Hudson-Odoi in the Chelsea starting XI. There is also the complication of club ownership. Roman Abramovich’s days as Chelsea’s owner are coming to an end.
A move to the Bundesliga?
Hudson-Odoi’s future in the game is promising, regardless of the club. A link to Bayern Munich makes sense, as Die Rotten are in the process of rebuilding. The Club president, Uli Hoeneß has made no secret of the fact that Bayern are looking to spend in the Summer. Bayern have several ageing plays who are out of contract at the end of the season, including Franck Ribery, Arjen Robben and Rafina.
Making the transition to the Bundesliga will have its challenges, Hudson-Odoi can call on the experiences of England team-mate Jadon Sancho, a highly talented player enjoying life at league leaders, Borussia Dortmund.
Bayern have dominated the German league, but they are hungry to repeat their Champions League win in 2012/13. Die Rotten are in danger of losing out to Dortmund in this season’s Bundesliga race. It’s a fascinating battle, and to add Hudson-Odoi into the conversation whets the appetite for next season.
A move to the Premier League?
Make no doubt about it, as you’re reading this, several head coaches and scouts are mulling over the thought of signing the Chelsea player. A valuation of £22.5m could rise if a bidding war arrises. Chelsea may be reluctant to sell one of their hottest prospects to a league rival. Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool have the spending power. Hudson-Odoi would also be a good fit for Spurs, however, it’s unclear as to how much money Daniel Levy will give the club in the transfer market.
The ball is in Chelsea’s court, do they extend Hudson-Odoi’s contract beyond 2020, or do they cash in? The Bundesliga would be a great place for Hudson-Odoi to play and learn from some of the top coaches in Western Europe. The Chelsea teenager may get a run out at Cardiff City this afternoon. There’s seldom a dull moment in the Top Flight.
