The Euro 2020 Qualifiers got off to an impressive start. Sadly, it was dominated by the unsolved issues in football. Besides the poor unfoldings here are the top talks of Matchday 1 and 2.

The 10 groups of the Euro 2020 Qualifiers saw some great games, exceptional goals and familiar failure for some of the so-called better countries. Not all of the nations played over both matchdays and now those who haven’t own a game in hand over those who failed to put points on the board.

Between the Groups from A to J, nine teams went into the club break on a perfect run, with two wins and no losses. From the nine, England’s flag flies the highest! They accomplished the best stats. The top three coming out of the first two assemblages come as no surprise,

Top Three nations from Matchday 1 and Matchday 2

1st. England – P2; W2; GF10; GA1; Points 6
2nd. Italy – P2; W2; GF8; GA0; Points 6
3rd. France P2; W2; GF8; GA1; Points 6

Nice to see the Italians bounce back in flawless fashion, while the French resistance continued on their amazing run, and England proceeds to show up as a firm favourite after two massively exciting displays on the pitch. Gareth Southgate’s work showcases the evolution from little cubs to Three Lions.

The best matches

The Azzurri pulled off the biggest win of the 2020 Qualifiers. They banged up Liechtenstein really bad with six goals and no reply. England and Cyprus were the only two teams to put five past their opponents, with the Three Lions doing it in back-to-back games.

The three games that really stood out amongst the rest were the two six-goal thrillers and the five-goal mixer. The former two both ended with the points shared, while the latter witnessed Germany just about take all three points from a mammoth meeting between them and rivals, the Netherlands.

Best Matches

Netherlands 2-3 Germany
Switzerland 3-3 Denmark
Norway 3-3 Sweden

Best of the best

Finally, the player talks! The best two scorers in these two rounds go to England’s Raheem Sterling and Israel’s Eran Zahavi. Both men scored four goals in two games but scored a hat-trick in one game, respectively. With this being said, Sterling has to be the best player in Europe at the moment as his performances between club duty and his international challenge, he hasn’t dipped in form.

Big news for Spain as Alvaro Morata scored a brace in their Malta victory, but the kicker behind these goals, it was his first since 2017. This also took his tally to 15 in total for his country. Since moving from Chelsea to Atletico Madrid, he has seen a vast improvement in his form and ability to score goals.

The best goals of the two matchdays belong to Granit Xhaka and Serge Gnabry. Both were worldly goals and both goals ensured the three points for their respective nations. Lastly, Olivier Giroud became the third highest goal scorer in France’s history. What a way to silence the haters Giroud!

That’s all the talks for now and the Euro 2020 Qualifiers talks. We return to international football with no speed and no drive, in the new month.
