April 3rd is an important date in the Tottenham Hotspur calendar. Mauricio Pochettino’s side will host Crystal Palace at their new home, a magnificent stadium built for the future.

Tottenham Hotspur are heading in the right direction off the pitch. A fantastic new stadium will host Top Flight football games from both sides of the pond. Tottenham are back home where they belong and for two games a season the NFL will play the International Series at the stadium, in a 10 year partnership.

Tottenham have been synonymous with playing attractive football, they‘ve had plenty of talent in their ranks, from the goal scoring abilities of Jimmy Greaves to the silky skills of Ossie Ardiles, and from the brilliance of Paul Gascoigne to the pacey runs of Gareth Bale. Having a fantastic stadium has tangible benefits, but can Tottenham elevate match performances at their new home, and make it a difficult place for the opposition? Will the Club add quality to their ranks in preparation for the new season?

Mauricio Pochettino has made no secret of his frustration at Tottenham’s lack of transfer activity. The Summer transfer window will be competitive, and fans will be eager to see who the Club will recruit. According to ESPN, Harry Kane has stated that as long as the club are moving in the right direction he‘s willing to stay and fight for trophies.

The Tottenham squad isn’t too far off the mark. A top-three Premier League finish is achievable, it will be a morale booster for Pochettino’s side. It will also mean that Spurs finish above Arsenal, an important factor in the North London rivalry. The added benefits of playing Champions League football next season could be the differentiator in future transfer negotiantions.

Tottenham’s European adventure is alive and well, the draw was unkind as Manchester City are arguably the ‘form club’ in World Football. Poch’s team will be up for the challenge, but they must be at their best. The next few months will highlight were Tottenham must strengthen. Signing quality players able to make an immediate impact could be the key to a successful campaign in 2019/20.

Since Pochettino’s arrival at Spurs in 2014, Sky Sports reports that Spurs have spent £254million in transfer fees while receiving £225m to leave a net spend of £29m. Spurs’ net spending pales in comparison to the rest of the big six Premier League clubs: Manchester City (£518m), Manchester United (£466m), Arsenal (£225m), Chelsea (£200m) and Liverpool (£183m) have all overspent Spurs by at least £100m (via Evening Standard).

Making Tottenham’s new stadium a fortress is a priority for Poch, home advantage is important in the modern game. Before that can happen, Spurs must travel to Anfield on Sunday.  A positive result for Tottenham will put the cat among the pigeons in the title race. Tottenham are heading home, it‘s now time for them to make a few big signings and push on in their quest for silverware.
