Brighton defeat Crystal Palace to spoil Roy Hodgson’s 300th game in English football. The Seagulls wrapped up three valuable points thanks to Anthony Knockaert‘s unstoppable second-half strike. Glenn Murray started the game and scored his 100th league goal in Albion’s colours.

Brighton defeat Crystal Palace to secure a league double over their rivals. Things didn’t start well for Chris Hughton’s side when Florin Andone was injured in the warm-up. Brighton’s top scorer Glenn Murray got the nod in the starting XI, and it was a blessing in disguise. Murray’s 19th-minute strike opened the scoring with a well taken right-footed shot across the keeper, Vicente Guaita had no chance in the Palace goal.

Shane Duffy thwarted Michy Batshuayi with a good challenge just before the interval. Palace fans continued to get behind their team but it was Brighton who stuck to the task and went they into the half-time interval with a 1-0 lead.
Palace forward Andros Townsend changed the game in the second half when he won a penalty after a rash challenge by Davy Pröpper. Luka Milivojevic made no mistake from 12-yards out. Brighton retook the league 24 minutes later when Knockaert’s quality shone under the sunlight. The Frenchman cut inside from the right to strike a sweet left foot curler into the top corner. Knockaert’s effort will be a contender for goal of the day. Palace had a chance to level the game for a second time when the ball fell to Jeffrey Schlupp, but the 26-year-old sent the ball into the stands.
Glenn Murray Joins 100 Club
The beers will be on Murray this evening, he scored his 100th goal in Albion’s colours. The veteran took his Premier League goal tally to 11 for the season.
Palace had the lion’s share of possession, but it’s goals that win games. The Seagulls move ahead of Newcastle and are level on 33 points with Palace. It’s the first time Brighton have had back-to-back wins since December when they also toppled Palace at the Amex Stadium.
Palace make the short trip around the M25 to face Watford next weekend in the FA Cup. Brighton are also in FA Cup action, they travel to South East London to face Championship side Millwall.
