Spurs end Dortmund’s Champions League run with flawless showing
Hold the phone, Mauricio and his Spurs side are through to the quarterfinals of the Champions League after a 1-0 victory over German side, Borussia Dortmund.
Tottenham joins Ajax in the quarterfinals of the Champions League after both teams wiped the floor with their opponents. Ajax in the other fixture on the night took out the reigning champs Real Madrid with an emphatic victory, while Spurs completed formalities.
Spurs display was not so classy on the night but they did over enough in the first leg to see out a 1-0 win in the backyard of Dortmund in the second leg. Over the two legs, the aggregate score was 4-0. A flawless showing by the North London side.
This is only the second time the North Londoners have qualified for the quarterfinals of the Champions League.

The game plan was to sit back and absorb all the attacking phases of the home side. Spurs did just that and they did it with ease. Mauricio’s men were on call for everything BVB had coming their way. Hugo Lloris put in a Man of the Match performance and was helped tirelessly by his backline.
The German side had all the ball possession with 65% possession. They also kept peppering Lloris’ goalmouth with 19 shots, seven of them being on target. All of these efforts went begging, forcing Tottenham’s number 1 to make world-class saves.
Spurs recorded five shots at goal and the only shot to go on target was the goal scored by Harry Kane. This came just after the whistle blew for the second half, sealing the fate of Dortmund. It knocked their wind out, as the home side’s fight became much harder.
The visitors went on about their business at the back and cancelled out BVB’s attacks for the remainder of the game. One goal was all they needed to get themselves into the next round of the Champions League knockout phase.
Next up for Spurs
