Manchester City and Liverpool are set to battle it out for the Premier League title, just like they did 5 years ago.

If you’re a fan of any of the 18 Premier League clubs not named Liverpool or Manchester City, then the prospect of a title race is probably very exciting to you, as we haven’t had a proper one in years. If you’re a fan of one of the 2 clubs involved however, it may be a nerve-wracking experience, although this is what the clubs play for, and the players train for – moments like this. With 71 and 70 points respectively, Manchester City and Liverpool sit neck-and-neck in the Premier League table, with the season winding down into its final quarter now.

Many have criticized Liverpool’s form since the new year and rightfully so. The Reds have dropped a shocking 11 points in just 9 matches since January 1st, giving up their lead atop the table in the process, essentially allowing Manchester City to crawl back into it. Had Liverpool won the winnable matches they’ve had, such as the ones against West Ham and Leicester, they could have been firm favourites.

With the experience that they have in their squad though, it should come as no surprise to see Manchester City atop the table once more. If you had said at the beginning of the season that they’d only be top by 1 point, you’d probably be surprised. Therefore, people shouldn’t be criticizing Liverpool as much as they have been, since they’ve actually done very well to keep up with an experienced Manchester City side who hit 100 points less than a year ago, in the context of the whole season. It’s quite mad to think that it’s possible for both these sides to hit 90+ points, but one of them falling short of the title. It’s a real testament to how challenging the Premier League has become, as just 3 years ago Arsenal finished 2nd in the table with essentially the same amount of points after 38 games as these 2 clubs currently have after 29 games.

With just 9 matches left in the season however, a title race is looming, and both sides can

not afford to lose any points from here on out. Let’s take a look at their schedules, strengths, weaknesses, and overall chances, shall we?
