Newcastle: Miguel Almiron proved to be worth every penny
Newcastle’s newest playmaker has already provided enough evidence that he is going to be more a hit than a miss. Miguel Almiron was a keynote in Newcastle’s victory over Huddersfield.
These head-to-head relegation battles have been a constant viewing in the English Premier League. This is because of the teams who are in danger of either getting closer to the drop or falling into a drop spot are more than just a couple of teams.
Besides the two clubs who prep for certain doomsday come to the end of the season, there are about five other teams who could take the last spot from Southampton. That or, the Saints will take it if they don’t return back to the form they were revealing when Ralph Hasenhuttl just arrived.
Of all the teams, Newcastle is one of the few who have turned their form, fortune, and results around for the best. On Saturday past, Newcastle took all the points in one of these straight engagements to miss the bottom region.
Yes, Huddersfield has become the point feeder to all teams in the league, but there was a time Rafa’s men wore the same sign on their back. However, like last season, this has all changed for the Toons after the turn of the year.
Miguel Almiron is one of the reasons why!
One of the main reasons the club has done better is the fact more first-teamers are fit and ready for the picking. The other, Mike Ashley actually suppled Rafa Benitez with a small transfer kitty to obtain some fresh faces in the team.
One fresh face that is being monitored by all is Miguel Almiron, who joined from MLS side Atlanta United. He became the club’s record signing and he was looking for a way into one of Europe’s top leagues for a while.
Finally given the chance, nobody needed to ask him twice. Since the move he’s made two appearances, one coming off from the bench (after just signing), and now Saturday past, his full debut. And boy did he show up!

He was lively and one of Newcastle’s best players on the day, if not their best. He created the most chances in the game. This was also the most produced by a Toon player this season. What has been missing from this side? Imagination and a playmaker.
Rafa’s men were never the worst defensive team but they were the second lowest scoring sides in the English Premier League and were even the worst scoring team at one stage in the campaign.
