A major talking point from the game came courtesy of Mexican maestro Javier Hernandez, who bundled home the crucial West Ham equaliser for his 50th PL goal.

However, as replays were shown, Chicharito had seemingly handled the ball over the line. Neither the referee, the assistants or even half of the Fulham team seemed to notice initially. The goal stood – ultimately becoming the launching pad for West Ham’s surge back into the game.

All of which beggars the question, why is it that such contentious goals are still unable to be reviewed in the most technologically advanced era of the game? The introduction of the VAR has been eyed warily by the traditionalist FA and PL clubs – but until it is embraced, the odd fishy goal or offside decision will continue to haunt defending teams.
