The FA Cup Fifth Round draws to a close. The final fixture of the round achieved after Chelsea’s loss to Man United. How did the Premier League pedigree do in the fifth round?

How did all of the Premier League pedigree do in the FA Cup Fifth Round? Well, absolutely well! All but one Premier League club made it past the fifth phase, but that’s due to them being involved in the only Top Flight tie, where the two had to dispute each other for a spot in the next round.

A 1,2,3, rundown of the fixtures and their results

Watford led the way with a victory in Friday night FA Cup action. They set the bar for all the others with their narrow victory over Queens Park Rangers. They were then followed by three fixtures on Saturday past involving two other Premier League club, Brighton and Man City.

Man City’s scoreline is not a true reflection of the “whole” game but is a representation of how it got too much for Newport County. They matched Pep’s men for about 50 minutes of the game, keeping them scoreless till then.

The former entertained with a three-goal thriller, although it was late drama. The controlled the game with their two quick goals in the first half, scored 10 minutes apart. They knocked out a strong Derby side under the stewardship of Chelsea legend, Frank Lampard.

Sunday followed with more of the same

The next two on the pitch were Crystal Palace and Wolves. The Wanderers dug deep to keep a 1-0 lead over Bristol from the 28th minute of the game, thanks to Ivan Cavaleiro. The Eagles progressed with ease as they took their chances early in the game. Two first-half goals warranted them a spot in the next round.

The last of the lot was the best clash of them all, United’s trip to Stamford Bridge for a familiar rivalry duel against Chelsea. Monday Night Football saw Man United unmoved and matched for most of the match. They recorded a cool, calm, and collective 2-0 win over Sarri’s men.

After this treat, Ole keeps it one loss but in 13 games now. They were led by a master showing from both midfielders, Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera. United keep their chances alive for some cabinet wear this season, as their neighbours outshine them by being the only club in the Premier League fighting on all fronts still.

The draw was taken soon after the last game played out. No replays for the first time this run, showing the pedigree of the top flight has been too much for most of the lower league teams.
