Champions League: Liverpool vs. Bayern Munich Round of 16 First Leg
By John Wozniak
The Champions League has been a temperamental affair for Liverpool, they finished runners-up to PSG in Group C.
Liverpool’s away form has been dreadful in this season’s competitions, losing all three games, failing to score on two occasions. An away trip to Belgrade knocked the wind out of Liverpool’s sails when the home supporters created a raucous atmosphere.
The Reds seemed to freeze in-the-moment. Liverpool must not rely solely on a good performance at Anfield on Tuesday night, they must also up their game at the Alliance Arena. Liverpool supporters will demand a good performance.
Klopp knows from his days in the Bundesliga with Dortmund just how good Bayern are. He spoke to Liverpool TV ahead of Tuesday’s huge clash.
"You watch always the results and goals, but full games it’s different. [I’ve watched] five or six and now we have the more detailed analysis, and it’s just quality. It’s a mix of quality and experience. They were six times in a row champions of Germany, which is not easy, and they were one of the teams in the last 10 years who were pretty much all the time in the quarter-finals, semi-finals, final of the Champions League. via liverpoolfc.com"
Team News: Virgil van Dijk is suspended. Roberto Firmino, Dejan Lovren, Xherdan Shaqiri and Georginio Wijnaldum are all doubts for Tuesday’s game. Joe Gomez is ou injured and unavailable for selection.
One To Watch: Trent Alexander-Arnold. It will be interesting to see if one of England and Liverpool’s brightest prospects can exploit the right-wing and create chances against a solid Bayern defence.
