After a lengthy saga, Aaron Ramsey’s future is finally clear. Arsenal’s Welshman will be leaving the club on a free transfer after 11 seasons, to join Italian giants Juventus.

It’s been a long road with many highs and lows at Arsenal for Aaron Ramsey. After joining the club as a teenager, he came back from a horrific injury to become one of the most influential players the club has seen since the days of Henry and Vieira. Ramsey’s contributions cannot be understated. His 2 FA Cup winning goals are probably Arsenal’s 2 biggest goals of the last 10 or so years, and his loyalty to the club has never faltered. However, at 28 years of age and in the prime of his career, it’s clear that Ramsey needed to take the step up in his career, as Arsenal have sunk into irrelevancy within the big picture in recent seasons.

For a man who was underrated for so many years to get the offers he did, must have been a relief. Ramsey had his pick out of some of Europe’s biggest clubs, with PSG reportedly offering a contract, and the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid showing interest as well. Alas, Ramsey has chosen to join Juventus, a club with Champions League winning aspirations and plenty of world-class quality. The Serie A is also a league that will likely suit Ramsey, who loves to make late runs into the box. Many players of a similar mold have thrived in that league.

The details of his contract were revealed by many reliable sources on Monday afternoon, and the numbers were sky-high, almost beyond belief. Ramsey will reportedly be making a whopping £400,000 a week, making him one of the top 10 highest-paid players in the world, and the highest-paid British footballer of all-time. Of course Juventus don’t have to pay a single penny for the transfer itself, but these wages still seem very excessive, even for someone as good as Ramsey is.

In the end though, Juventus are getting an excellent player who can influence a match heavily with his efforts in the final third. As good as the Juventus team is, they are truly lacking a profile like Ramsey and he is sure to be a key figure for them in the coming seasons.

It became clear that he was not a part of Unai Emery’s long-term plans at Arsenal, and therefore, this deal is probably best for all parties involved. Hopefully Arsenal fans never forget the contributions Aaron Ramsey gave to the club, and the memories he brought as well!
