Arsenal have captured Denis Suarez on loan, but all hope of a 2nd loan deal seems to be ending, as the deadline looms.

Arsenal fans are used to the highs and lows of a transfer window, it comes with the application. Every club goes through fluctuations in the window but Arsenal’s seem to be heavier and faster, it’s quite amusing really. They spent the whole window trying to hash out a deal for Denis Suarez, and the deal has officially been announced by the club.

Denis Suarez provides some much needed cover for Arsenal, as he can play in multiple different positions and on either flank, although his favoured position remains centrally. It’s not a transfer that is overly exciting, as Suarez has not played often and is known to be a quite fragile player, in terms of his physicality, which is not a good sign for the Premier League. For him to adapt to the Premier League mid-season is a tough ask, but he should provide decent cover regardless.

Apart from the Suarez deal, Arsenal have been linked heavily with a host of other names, including Inter’s Ivan Perisic, Dalian Yifang’s Yannick Ferreira Carrasco, and PSG’s Christopher Nkunku. Unfortunately for the Gunners, all 3 deals seem to be dead at this point, as the window winds to a close.

For all 3 of those players, the negotiations did not go as expected and valuations were not met.

Although any of those 3 players would have been excellent additions, they all posed significant financial risks and Arsenal are far better off waiting till the summer, where better players than those 3 will be available to them.

It’s interesting that the Gunners were not linked with any central defenders in this window, despite the fact that arguably the 2 best at the club, Rob Holding and Sokratis Papastathopoulos, are out for the foreseeable future. Although Arsenal do have Nacho Monreal and Stephan Lichtsteiner capable of stepping in, centre-back is probably the weakest area of the squad. It’s likely that they are waiting till the summer to fill that position in adequately and in a much safer manner.

Arsenal’s January incomings are all finished, and they have Denis Suarez to show for it. The Gunners did not have the financial power necessary to make any permanent deals in this window, but that is expected to change come the summer.
