After 11 years at Arsenal which saw him grow from a raw youngster to a seasoned professional, it seems that Aaron Ramsey is finally moving onto greener pastures.
His lengthy and confusing contract situation has been made no secret by the media in recent months, and it now seems that Aaron Ramsey is finally moving on from Arsenal Football Club. His contributions to Arsenal’s ‘Emirates era’ cannot be belittled, as he has single-handedly scored arguably their 2 most important goals in the last decade or so, with his 2 FA Cup winners in 2013 & 2017.
He is now 28 years old, and it seems a move to Italian champions Juventus is on the cards for July 1st. The pre-contract is reportedly already signed, and all it will need at this point is an announcement. Ramsey had a host of Europe’s top clubs after his signature, including Bayern Munich and Paris St-Germain, hinting at how highly he is rated within the game.
Arsenal have come under immense criticism from fans and pundits alike for letting Ramsey, a midfielder who is probably worth £50-60 million, walk out of the club for no fee. For a side that is lacking in financial power at the moment, the money they could have recuperated by selling him last summer could have done them a world of good.
Alas, they have already chosen to keep him for the season and let him walk in the summer, so the criticism and complaints wont lead to anything except more prudent thinking for future deals done by the club.
Juventus are getting a phenomenal midfielder, who has the uncanny and rare ability to make a significant difference in the final-third.
Over the years, Aaron Ramsey has been able to hone his craft to near perfection, which is built around late runs into the box and contributing heavily with goals and assists. There truthfully aren’t many midfielders in the world who are capable of putting up the numbers that he does.
Despite being nothing more than a substitute at the moment for Unai Emery, Ramsey has still managed to score twice and bag a ridiculous 6 assists in just 8 starts and 11 sub appearances. Last season was even more impressive, with the Welshman scoring 7 goals and assisting a teammate 8 times in just 24 league matches.
For a Juventus team that is lacking final-third contributions from midfield, Ramsey is a massive addition, especially for no fee.
Perhaps the most mind-boggling part of Ramsey’s agreement with Juve is the rumour that he will be the clubs 2nd highest paid player behind Cristiano Ronaldo, making him also the 2nd highest paid British player, only behind fellow Welshman Gareth Bale. Despite how talented Ramsey is, you have to feel that this wage packet is quite excessive, even with the fact that they won’t have to pay a transfer fee.
There’s no doubt that Juventus are getting a top midfielder for next to no cost. Ramsey has proven himself in the Premier League and in international competition at Euro 2016. He is still lacking a league title and a European crown in his modest career, and a move to Juventus could very well be the best way for him to fill in those gaps.
