Manchester City took heavy advantage of their lengthy man advantage to crush notable giant-killers Wolves on Monday night.

Wolves are no pushover side – every top 6 club has learnt that this year. If you offered Pep Guardiola a scrappy 1-0 win in this match before it kicked off, he would have cried tears of joy and kissed your feet – Wolves are that good in big matches.

In tight fixtures, it’s often Manchester City’s individual quality that makes the difference. Sure, tactically, they are set up well and set up for victory. But how many times have we seen a stunning De Bruyne threaded pass or a Sterling screamer make the difference for City? Many times.

If you didn’t see Man City’s first goal against Wolves, go watch it right now. It wasn’t the first time this season that Aymeric Laporte has completely dazzled the football world with his exquisite passing from the back, but it never gets old regardless. His ball to Leroy Sane down the left flank was weighted to perfection, and it led directly to Gabriel Jesus’ opening goal.

Willy Boly’s red card basically ensured that Wolves would be handed a loss.

It’s tough to challenge Manchester City with an equal amount of men on the pitch, so when Wolves went down to 10 men after Willy Boly’s red card in the 17th minute, all hope of a good result basically got tossed out the door. The challenge from Boly was reckless, there’s no doubt about that. Sure he won the ball, but the way he went in on Bernardo Silva’s ankle with his studs up was dangerous and deserving of the red card.

As the half wound down, Raheem Sterling was tripped up inside the box by an erratic Ryan Bennett. Gabriel Jesus converted the ensuing penalty to grab his 2nd.

It wasn’t too bad for Wolves to be honest, Rui Patricio’s heroics in goal kept the scoreline from getting too ugly, but to be outshot 24-3 isn’t what Nuno Espirito Santo would have wanted from this match.
