Liverpool’s Andy Robertson continues to shine, as he makes his case to be considered among the best full-backs in the world.

£8 million was all it took for Liverpool to get their hands on Glasgow-born Andy Robertson from Hull City in July of 2017, in a deal that went slightly under-the-radar. Robertson wasn’t a show-stopper of any sorts at Hull, and although he did play very well for them, was hardly ever noticed. So it came as quite a shock for Liverpool to go out and sign him, after all, Alberto Moreno was struggling as the starting left-back for the club and many of the fans expected someone more proven than Robertson to join.

Well, fast-forward just a year-and-a-half and there truly was no better left-back that Liverpool could have signed that summer, especially for that sort of fee.

Robertson has taken the Premier League by storm since he joined, and his playing levels have been rising so steadily that many now consider him to be among the very best left-backs on the planet, alongside stars such as Marcelo and Jordi Alba. These claims are very hard to argue with.

Robertson excels at so many things, and that is his greatest asset. He is essentially flawless all across the park.

Liverpool play a very entertaining and intense brand of football. When losing the ball, they press relentlessly. They build up from the back, and finish off moves ruthlessly. Perhaps the most impressive aspect of Robertson’s game is his ability to be heavily involved and crucial to Liverpool’s play no matter what sort of situation they are in.

When the Reds are defending, Robertson is excellent at sticking to his man like glue and restricting his space. When playing out from the back, he is always available for an out-pass. During build-up, his pinpoint entry-balls to the forwards are often Liverpool’s main method of entering the opposition’s half and starting their move. Then finally, in the final third, his overlapping runs and mouthwatering crosses often lead to scoring chances.

As I mentioned earlier, he simply does everything for his side and molds his play in-game to whatever his team requires. He is able to achieve this through maintaining ridiculously high fitness-levels, which is why he never seems to stop running. Robertson’s footballing IQ is also very impressive, as he seems to pick the right pass every single time.

Liverpool have Jurgen Klopp and their brilliant transfer and coaching teams to thank for the rise of Andy Robertson. His tactical profile is perfect for this Liverpool team, all down to Jurgen Klopp. His fitness levels are at a world-class level, all thanks to the coaching staff. And finally, he cost the club just £8 million, take a bow!
