Everton only lost back-to-back matches against West Ham and Arsenal, and another against United along the way to 12. So they must keep pushing under their new manager and fight for good results.

The Everton job is a very tough one. We’ve seen that since Roberto Martinez left, as they’ve failed to replicate the stability that he continuously brought to the club. They’ve had a very slow start to this season as well, picking up just one win in their first six matches, and losing their last two to West Ham and Arsenal.

Against West Ham, the Toffees were extremely poor and didn’t really give themselves a chance to pick up any points, but this wasn’t the case against Arsenal. In truth, Everton dominated Arsenal, most noticeably in the first half, as they pressed the Gunners consistently and restricted their space well. A similar show went down at Stamford Bridge in their most recent clash against Chelsea.

Despite this dominance, they weren’t able to capitalize on the great chances they created, as they were indecisive in front of goal. Lacazette eventually sealed a Gunners victory with a heroic second-half performance.

Despite the loss to Arsenal, Everton showed real organization and quality throughout the match. (This match is the perfect example and lets me know, good times are coming for the Toffees)

The pressing from Everton was sublime at the Emirates that Sunday. It was organized, tenacious, and constant. You could see the frustration on the faces of Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey, as they failed to find the pockets of space that they normally thrive in.

We are starting to see the ideas that Marco Silva is trying to implement into the XI, and it’s quite clear that he still hasn’t found his ideal team, but that will come in time. Cenk Tosun is a mint centre-forward but Calvert-Lewin offers a different threat. It’s issues like this that he has to iron out before Everton really start firing. Perhaps moving Richarlison to centre-forward, where he played on his debut for Brazil and scored a brace, could be the answer to their goalscoring issues.

Whatever Marco Silva decides to do, it’s clear on the pitch that Everton have the right ideas and the right direction, it’s all a matter of time and execution now.

Since this bad run of six games, Silva’s Everton side has arranged a good run of games and achieved better results. From the next six the Toffees picked up 13 points from the 18 that was offered. Managing 4W;1D;1L in their most recent run of fixtures.

This proves with the right amount of time, a bit of Silva’s philosophy installed over a longer period of time, and a few new names to add to the quality brought in, in the summer – Everton could likely reach their destination of a European spot come the end of season. The consistency has been far better than last season and other seasons prior to last season.

Their next run of six; Cardiff (H); Liverpool (A); Newcastle (H); Watford (H); Manchester City (A); Tottenham (H).
