Nothing close to the sort of predictions made before the games kicked off in the first set of Matchday 4 Champions League group fixtures.

The First Round didn’t disappoint at all. Well that’s if you not a Liverpool supporter. Both teams almost failed terribly at meeting expectations in the start to the second round of Champions League affairs.

Luckily for one of the two English outfits; there was a fighting spirit to get back into the game and take what they needed.

The former had a chance to take all the points and widen the gap between them and the other two big boys (PSG and Napoli). Whereas the latter took their final chance to make it a worthwhile ending to the group phase. A proper battle for third place… Don’t you think?

Liverpool’s loss to Red Star Belgrade (Red Star 2-0 Liverpool)

If you as a fan thought you never made a difference. Well, think again! Exactly what the home crowd wished for, came true. A truly hostile but fun atmosphere inside the Rajko Mitic stadium. After already stealing a point in their first fixture at home to Napoli, they’ve gone and done one better this time.

Red Star were certainly the stars in this clash. Yes, Klopp’s side was poor beyond measure. But take nothing away from this Serbian side, they played an outstanding Champions League tie. A goal from a set piece and one from open play – all by one player was over enough to see this group remain open to all four teams in Group C now.

This, after the other result went exactly in favour of the Reds and Red Star. Man of the Match has to go to Milan Pavkov for his sublime effort in everything attack for Red Star Belgrade.

Ass it stands for Liverpool in Group C

Napoli – 6 points
liverpool – 6 points
PSG – 5 points
Red Star – 4 points

Tottenham and their satisfying showing (Tottenham 1-1 PSV Eindhoven)

Where it was going in the beginning would have caused a bitter, sad ending at such an early point in the Champions League for Mauricio’s Spurs. They were all out of sorts and clearly lacked integrity in the early parts of the 90 minutes. So much so… They were the first to concede and looked as if they were heading for the same fate as Liverpool, if not worse.

Tottenham left it for late to give the fans something to cheer about on route home. Some untrue supporters even left before the 70th minute of the game, needless to say, they missed out. It went on for about 60 minutes from Luuk de Jong’s opener in the first two minutes of the game, before Spurs came back with two goals, ten minutes apart from each other.

Group B standings

Barcelona – 10 points
Inter Milan – 7 points
Tottenham – 4 points
PSV Eindhoven – 1 point

Next. Efficiency enough to see 3 points for Huddersfield. dark

Who else but reliable Harry Kane to the rescue for the Wembley team. With the late victory, Pochettino has a chance to fight another day in the Champions League. Their next two encounters are the ones that matter the most. Get six points from the six available – then Spurs makes that knockout stages they’re working hard to get to.

The other result worked out favourable for Tottenham, placing them third within three points from a qualifying spot. The Man of the Match has to go to the head Spur, Harry Kane.
