Despite being a well-known player, Ross Barkley has not hit his massive potential…yet.

For a few years, Ross Barkley’s name was synonymous with the word “plateau”. The definition of plateau in a non-geographical context is “a state of little or no change following a period of activity or progress”.

This is exactly what happened to Barkley, who broke out in the 2013-14 season with Everton, subsequently cracking in England’s 2014 World Cup squad at just 20 years of age! The hype around Barkley eventually faded, as inconsistent form and injuries hampered his last few seasons at Goodison Park, causing him to thirst for a move away.

Antonio Conte, who is no longer manager, brought Barkley to Chelsea in the January transfer window for a £15m fee. Not everyone was convinced by the signing at the time, even with the relatively cheap price tag.
