Liverpool: The Egyptian confirms his Anfield royalty – The 50 mark king Mohamed Salah
Mohamed Salah booked his place in Anfield folklore after last season’s heroics already. But after his brace midweek, the Egyptian can rest assure he is amongst the very best to ever wear a Reds jersey!
Always a proud moment to write about Mohamed Salah and his achievements. In fact, it’s quite refreshing to always be writing about the success of African-born football players. Being African myself and knowing the lifelong trials we face daily, to see somebody from mother Africa conquer the world is always a pleasure.
Mo Salah has certainly been a player carrying the flag high for his country for consecutive seasons. But it’s not been his country that’s got him all the attention from the world looking in. It has been the doing of Klopp and his work at Liverpool. If there was ever a player you needed to use as an example of a player fitting in like a glove, Salah is that man.
When he joined back in the summer transfer window of last year, the move received mixed reviews from the Anfield faithful. The price and the fact he never excelled at Chelsea in his first crack at Premier League action, gave doubt the upper hand in the argument.
However, nobody anticipated what came next. Salah singlehandedly, fired in more goals(34) than Huddersfield(28), Swansea City(28) and West Brom(31) , in the English Premier League. That and helping to secure another top-four finish and a push to the Champions League final, which ended in sorrow and heartache.
This season has not started like the last one
This season hasn’t seen the winger pickup where he left off from last season. Not to say he has been poor and needs to be subbed or moved on. No, no way near anything like that. It’s more the amount of chances his not putting away, putting his team at risk. He’s there to be attacking and scoring goals.
But if he was to convert every chance, Salah’s season would be far ahead of the last one. After going silent in front of goal, Salah scored in back-to-back games for Liverpool. In this week’s Champions League run in with Red Star Belgrade, Salah was an owner of a brand new brace.
If Klopp was to leave Salah on for a bit longer, he’d go home with the match ball. The penalty Salah could have taken was missed Sadio Mane, eventually. Nevertheless, the hat trick was not required to achieve what is an astonishing milestone in his Liverpool footballing career. Well done to the Egyptian king who now can call himself an Anfield king, as well.
