The best business is sometimes keeping hold of the world-class talent at your club, instead of venturing out their and paying millions for gold when you have platinum in your own backyard.

Chelsea playing above all expectations this season, sit in third place and still unbeaten for the season. The inclusion of new manager, Maurizio Sarri has seen the Blues of Stamford Bridge go from being the 5th best team to arguably, the second or third best performing team this term.

Led by star player, Eden Hazard, Chelsea has barely put a foot wrong. But it hasn’t been him all the time. Chelsea’s team on a whole has improved in every position. If they didn’t dip into the market for a new man in the specific slot, then the player in that slot has excelled and improved, drastically.

There was a big worry before the season got underway, many of the London side’s main men were ready to take leave from the Bridge, with a massive stall on many player contracts. Move on a few months and a sexy run of games – you can see the players have started buying into the managers philosophies, giving them little options but to stay.

The attacking fullback

Like Hazard, Alonso has benefitted from the change in system under Sarri. A more attacking approach brought to the game has made the likes of Alonso and others find the net and flourish going forward.

The Spaniard has played every games so far in the Premier League for the Blues and has barely put a foot wrong. In his defensive duties with the rest of Chelsea’s backline, Marcos and his teammates have only let in eight goals across all competitions. With this impressive stat, they’ve also managed to keep six clean sheets to date.

Bettering these defensive stats, is the man’s offensive stats. He has already scored one goal and assisted twice. He has aided so much in everything that’s labelled a Chelsea attack. Occupying the same side of the pitch as attacker, Hazard, Chelsea’s left side of the pitch is the worst to deal with on the day.

This is a collective effort by the Belgian and Spaniard, as well the talent and quality they offer on the side in both, defence and attack. Marcos Alonso’s new deal at Stamford Bridge keeps him at the club for another five years. That shows a lot of content for a club who wants to keep a hold of their talented gems after almost losing them all.
