It was never going to be easy for United, but so can the same be said for Juventus. Man City cruised through to victory, while Man United gave too much respect.

As the two Manchester clubs took on their respective battles in locations afar from each other, one came out victorious and the other, well scared of their opposition. Perhaps many came to watch the Ronaldo show.

It was always going to be tough encounters for both Manchester managers, however, one teams spitting out goals on command and the other, stood back and allowed too much in their own backyard. A quick recap of the night if you missed. Starting with the winning side, who return home in high spirits.

Shakhtar Donetsk 0-3 Manchester City

The sharks were let out of the cage and set free some time ago, as said in the preview. The amount of goals scored ahead of the clash gave no evidence that they were being stopped from scoring in this one.

More from Champions League

It’s always difficult to pick out what Great White is the leader of the attack in each match, when boasting so many talents. But in this one was none other than, David Silva. Freed up and enjoying the space provided by the inclusion of Kevin de Bruyne to the starting lineup. A goal by Silva led the way for City. Five minutes later Laporte compensated with a goal for his manager’s kind words during his pre-match press conference.

The last and third goal for Man City was also the final of the game, and the only one of the second half. The prove was in the result itself – with de Bruyne present, he just offered so much more for Pep going forward and in defence.

City take the reigns of Group F after one round played in the group stages of the Champions League. Way to turn things around Pep!

Manchester United 0-1 Juventus

It just wasn’t meant to be for the Old Trafford side. One worse than their previous Champions League tie, played at the same venue they supposed to be taking all the points no matter the time of competition.

Surprising, not surprising… United haven’t scored a goal at Old Trafford for 180 minutes in UCL competition. I’m not surprised. Not necessarily all up to the manager’s tactics, but also how the boys gave Ronaldo and co the floor to strut their stuff.

I can stand on booth feet and honestly say, United’s defence was a far better product, even though the only goal was conceded by them. Four goals in two matches for the young Argentine striker, Paulo Dybala. Just unstoppable if given too much space.

Next. Martial could be done with United. dark

Jose’s side literally let Juventus have more of everything. More shots at goal (6-14), more possession (39%-61%), and even a higher passing accuracy (815-89%). The big bang comes now though, the return fixture of this talented filled fixture will be in Italy – will United go their to secure qualifications, or play to try another day?

One man to thank again, David de Gea. They stay in second place in Group H, below winners Juventus, placing them in a  dictating position.
