English Premier League: Everton entertains Crystal Palace in solo Sunday action
Only one match for the day in what we can call “Sup Sunday” instead of “Super Sunday”. Crystal Palace makes the trip to Goodison Park in search of something positive.
After eight fixtures played on the return to domestic action, it’s a bit of a deflating feeling knowing there’s two matches remaining of Matchday 9, and its spilt into a game a day. Like 0 to 100 in a second, or 100 to 0 if you want to be really technical.
The question that stands out most for me is, are these two clubs capable of putting on a solo show filled with drama, goals, outstanding saves and wonderful football? Cardiff and Burnley put on quite the show a fortnight ago, when they were the only fixture of the Sunday on Matchday 7. It’s a tough act to follow, but follow it they must.
No football lover with a full belly is going to enjoy anything less than a three-goal game. Can I get an amen brothers and sisters! But to back the teams playing today. This fixture promises to be a great one because both these teams have conceded a good amount of goals and have showboated some great goals, aswell.
Over the last three meetings…
This will be the first time Roy and Silva meet in these colours. Roy had the pleasure last season to take points from a limping Toffees team. However, the Toffees were good to the crowd at Goodison Park and seized the Eagles 3-1 on the day.
Afore the last encounter with the two, Palace’s best result was a draw, sharing the points, basically giving the home side the bully status in this fixture.
Silva’s Everton
The Blues return to Premier League action looking for a third win in as many, since their defeat to Arsenal. They pulled off a stunner on their travels to the King Power stadium before the international stall, which was led by a player finally giving the club a return on his price tag. That player is Gylfi Sigurdsson.
Both he and Richarlison, have been top class for Silva and will be a really threat at home today. The most important thing for the manager, he as a fully-fit squad to select from, making his afternoon quite easy from the offset.
If Everton manages all three points, they will jump into eighth place over Wolves. It will add pressure to Leicester City, the only team who could still make it above them depending on Monday night’s result against the Gunners.
Palace need a point
The Englishman Roy can count his blessings having Zaha and others fit for selection. Although he’s ready for game time and able to play, Palace’s best player hasn’t been their best player.
The London side has been poor to say the least. In five fixtures (15 points) the Eagles have only bagged four. They’ve lost two in row since their draw against Newcastle.
If they managed to take all the points they will pull themselves two points closer to their opponents today, in 13th position, two points behind Everton. A draw keeps them away from the ledge, some safety from falling down in the bottom three pit. But that’s only if.
A good game expected by the two parties.
