A week left before club actions back and in full swing. And ahead of a gut-wrenching test against Chelsea, it seems United are putting things in place behind closed doors.

Eight games played and only 13 points taken from the 24 up for the taking. Shared points amongst themselves and opponents on only one occasion. But even that was a disappointment, when they managed to score only one goal at home against a newly promoted side.

The more derailing results following up on this draw was the three losses, gaining no points and making a meal of things in their quest for elite Premier League status. Three games won leaves them eighth in the standings. You’d think, “Yeah, eighth place, not too bad”.

However, five points from fourth place and eight points from first, second, and third place – has them doing loads of praying, wishing, and hoping on other results and misfortune for their challengers. It has officially become the season they want to forget, quickly.

A new Shaw to Luke upon

A strange turn of events now that Shaw is in contention for a new contract, isn’t it? Yes, it is quite strange. But that’s taking all of his time at United into account. One can honestly say – he was the most criticised United player during Jose Mourinho’s time at the club.

The boss has accused the fullback of being lazy, overweight and having a bad attitude. It was looking less likely that Shaw would be at Old Trafford come the first day of the Premier League kick off. It was almost certain the Shaw would to be shipped out.

Thankfully, an offseason displaying a massive change in attitude and a start we could grade better than almost all at United, Shaw returns to being an asset during a time where all players are treading on a tightrope.

Shaw has established himself as a starter this season and one of the first names on the team sheet. If it wasn’t for a pesky international break injury – the man would be a 100% in match attendance.

He has been consistent, a reliable figure at the back, even though the team has been poor in defence. He’s also been a major outlet going forward. If the Luke of Southampton is back, a contract is surely in order and a guaranteed added excitement again.

Henry at Monaco is good news for EPL. dark. Next

At 23-years of age only, he has many, many years to go in the game. Tying him down now while in near disastrous scenes at Old Trafford would be magic, considering he must still hit his prime and many clubs would want a shot at Shaw a Luke of a whistle.
