CONCACAF Women’s Championship Final

When – 8:00 pm EST on Wednesday, Oct. 17

Where – Toyota Stadium – Frisco, TX (FS1)

Women’s World Cup qualifying is winding down and the three spots from CONCACAF will be secured next week. The United States ran rough-shot through their group with 18 goals and none conceded in their three wins over Panama, Mexico, and Trinidad & Tobago. Mexico lost to Panama in a shock upset, meaning they will not go to France for the World Cup.

The final in Frisco is likely to be Canada against the United States. That final spot is between Panama, Jamaica and Costa Rica. After Wednesday, there will be six open spots for next summer’s journey to France.

Africa Cup of Nations Qualification Update

Qualification for next summer’s Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon is set to continue during the October international break. Each team will play two more games in their respective groups to get up to four total, with the final group matches to be played in November and March. The groups are a little strange after just two games. Three of the five African nations that played in Russia last summer are not in first place in their respective groups.

Senegal has four points after two matches in Group A. They are set to play Sudan twice. Morocco is currently in second behind the hosts Cameroon (who have qualified but are still playing, I don’t get it!). Nigeria is in the awkward third-place spot in Group E behind Libya and South Africa while Egypt sits behind Tunisia in Group J. The most surprising teams in first place right now are Mozambique, Mauritania, Zimbabwe, and Kenya.
