English Premier League: Power Rankings after matchday seven
By Orri Benatar
Last Match: W 2-1 vs. Crystal Palace
Next Match: SAT at. Watford
After losing to Burnley 4-0, Bournemouth bounced back with a late 2-1 win against Crystal Palace on Monday night. The Cherries goal difference is dead even and they are in seventh place. Their match on Saturday is the ultimate decider for which surprising top seven team will stay for a little longer. Could be a goalfest between Eddie Howe’s men and Javi Gracia’s Hornets.
Last Matches: W 3-0 vs. Fulham & L on PENS vs. Southampton
Next Match: SAT at. Leicester City
Everton was simply too good for Fulham and got just their second win of the season and first since matchday two against Southampton. The Toffees can score goals. Their 2-0 loss to Arsenal is the only match Everton’s offense has been shut out. As the only bottom-half team with a positive goal difference at zero, Everton must play a flawless game against Leicester City.
Last Match: W 2-0 at. Newcastle United
Next Match: SAT vs. Everton
Harry Maguire was immense in Leicester’s 2-0 win against Newcastle to put them on 12 points this season. How often can a defender say he had a goal, assist, and clean sheet in one match? After the match against Everton, Harry Maguire and James Maddison will become England teammates during the Nations League. That extra Fox could make England even better.
Last Match: L 0-2 at. Arsenal
Next Match: SAT vs. Bournemouth
Watford continues to trickle down the power rankings after their incredible start to the season. Since their win against Tottenham before the September international break, the Hornets have not won but haven’t been totally outplayed in any of their matches. Gracia is still getting decent performances out of his squad and another pre-international break win is just what they need.
Last Matches: W 2-0 at. Huddersfield & L 2-4 vs. Barcelona
Next Match: SAT vs. Cardiff City
It’s tough to gauge how good Tottenham is this season. They have comfortably beaten weaker opposition this year but have not performed well against the big clubs. The Champions League dream is starting to fade after a 4-2 loss to Barcelona at Wembley. The league should become the priority for Spurs and they need to keep up the pace to stay close to City and Liverpool.
