It’s an utter nightmare for Manchester United, who suffer a second straight loss. Tottenham wins 3-0 and remains perfect to start the season.

Tottenham Hotspur continues their red-hot start to the season, handing Manchester United an embarrassing 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford. The win for Spurs is the first for the club at Old Trafford since 2014, which is also the last time a London club took points from the home of the Red Devils. The match gives us many topics to discuss throughout the week leading up to matchday four.

Tottenham have earned nine points from a possible nine and will meet another team that is perfect on Sunday in Watford. The match could determine the outright leader of the Premier League before the first international break. Liverpool stays top of the table on goal difference with Chelsea as the fourth of the perfect sides.

Manchester United have only earned three points in their first three matches, leaving them in 13th as the worst top-six side. Mourinho, Ed Woodward, and all of Manchester United must come together before Sunday’s match against a struggling Burnley squad, who have conceded 10 goals in the last three matches.

Lucas Moura – Spurs star in the making

Lucas scored two of the three Tottenham goals today with Harry Kane adding the first on a beautiful header. Moura has been given the opportunity to start with Son Heung-Min on international duty with South Korea at the Asian Games. Thus far, Moura has capitalized on his appearances.

Both goals were easy conversions in the box and low corner shots past David De Gea. Moura was in space both times because of the lackluster United defending, again. His first goal came just two minutes after Kane’s header. With three goals in three matches, Lucas is tied with five others (Mitrovic, Mane, Aguero, Richarlison, and Pererya) for the Golden Boot. He is on a roll and could be the key to Tottenham’s success this season.

Mourinho’s seat at volcanic temperatures

Right now, Jose Mourinho is on track to get sacked before the international break. His dreary pre-season attitude has now translated into the regular season and Man United have lost two straight and are already six points behind first place. Forget the title, United needs to focus on just getting back to the top ten.

As of writing this, I don’t believe Mourinho will be fired before the match at Turf Moor. The line has now been drawn in my eyes that Man United MUST win against Burnley. If they don’t, Mourinho will be sacked, Ed Woodward will be in really deep trouble, and Paul Pogba will surely want to leave for Barcelona in January.

Besides Mourinho’s tactics, including his reliance on Marouane Fellaini to save his skin, the play has been abysmal. No matter which centerbacks United play, they are doomed. Alexis Sanchez continues to be a shadow of the player he was at Barcelona and Arsenal. Finally, Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku are not connecting and not getting chances to showcase how good they can be.

The club will have this week to really take a look at themselves and hit the reset button. With the Champions League draw on Friday, United could go into the match at Burnley feeling confident if they get an easy group stage. Matchday three is in the books and Man United have four fewer points than Bournemouth.
