Liverpool 1-0 Brighton

This scoreline does not do Liverpool justice. By every metric they dominated Brighton. With an incredible 22 shots and 70% of the possession, they only managed to produce one goal. This came from who else but Mohamed Salah in the 23rd minute. Brighton had a few close shots but Alisson was in top form, extending his clean sheet streak to three matches.

It is usually Liverpool’s offense that we talk about but their defense was impenetrable. Virgil van Dijk was a level-headed leader of the backline. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson served as capable wing-backs. In fact, Alexander-Arnold nearly scored when he hit the bar from a free kick. While it definitely was not a blowout, Liverpool have secured the top position in the league (for today.) They are making a push to stay there.

Man City and Bournemouth sit just behind the Reds after Saturday. Sunday will have three matches with Newcastle and Chelsea headlining the day. As the Blues look to stay perfect, Fulham and Burnley each search for the first win of their seasons. Before that, Watford and Crystal Palace will kick-off the day.
