The new PL season is nigh and West Ham has done enough business to give their fans reason for optimism. The new era in the club’s history – meant to have begun 2 seasons ago – may finally be dawning.

Pellegrini still cutting it in the Premier League

“Of course!”, I hear you say. This is a PL winner after all, but hear me out. The Chilean had a spectacular final season at City, with a cascade of goals leading to a title. But he has been mediocre ever since and this was in the footballing backwaters of China.

How he sets up this West Ham squad will be crucial. His preference is a 4-2-2-2, but preseason suggests a 4-2-3-1. The former may promise attacking flair that the Hammers fans crave, but the latter will give an often-shaky midfield shape and control.

Regardless, Pellegrini’s penchant for fluid passing football appears promising for the Londoners, and his record backs this up. Fingers crossed Hammers fans.
