Manchester City: Good news with Riyad Mahrez cleared to train later this week
A big scare missed for Pep and his Manchester City just as the weekend ended. They almost watched £60 million make the injury list for the opener of the season.
Reports came in late over Sunday morning the Citizens were in serious threat of losing new signing Mahrez, to a devastating ankle injury. Thankfully, news broke yesterday the injury will not be that serious and the player can join up with training later this week.
The recently acquired winger was involved in City’s preseason preparations and looked quite lively after finally taking leave from the Foxes. City and Pep have been criticised for buying a player to the value of £60m, and saying he will let him park on the bench.
Taken from the Manchester City Website:
“City’s new signing was withdrawn from the action after being fouled by Bayern Munich’s Chris Richards during the first half of Saturday’s 3-2 win over Bayern Munich.
“Subsequent pictures emerged showing Mahrez wearing a protective boot on his left foot upon his return to Manchester.
“However, a scan today has revealed no significant damage, and he could be available for selection for this weekend’s Community Shield against Chelsea.”
However, it will not be that easy to keep him on the bench. This electrifying forward can play all across the frontline and as a number 10. To add, he’s a great dead ball specialist and has all the quality to be a starter, or a great impact player.
As reported from the Manchester City website, the player left their summer friendlies, after being withdrawn from the game when sustaining an injury during a coming together between him and a Bayern player.
Pep is happy to have him back – no doubt
The champions first fixture is the FA Community Shield, where they take on Chelsea. Straight after is a huge one as they take on the new look Gunners, over at the Emirates. Epic start the 2018-2019 English Premier League campaign.
Some of Pep’s players have been on an extended break after near success and great success in the World Cup. With the Algerian taking part in most of the preseason, finding his feet with Pep and having a great amount of time to adjust – he stands the best chance of making the starting eleven.
This also takes stress off the back of some players returning to action. Kevin de Bruyne and the ageing Silva, benefits from him being activated early in the preseason. Pep didn’t just pay for a new bench warmer.
No, he paid for a more than adequate player to take over while the team’s stars get up to speed. What’s better than joining a team who are the current Premier League holders? A player who’s recently won the Premier League joining the current champs.
