What news is Barcelona’s link to Liverpool stopper, Simon Mignolet? Extremely strange news that’s what it is.

Liverpool have added players in every area that’s been a denting factor in all of their campaigns leading to this one. Most notably was the failure in a position that needed work for many moons now.

Well it seems the Reds have thrashed out £67 million for Alisson Becker to make sure there is no repeat of goalkeeping errors. Yes, it was not the Belgium Simon Mignolet, who let down the Anfield side in their most defying moment of the 2017/18 season. But he has been a culprit on many occasions of the exact fumbling fate.

This is exactly the reason why he was dropped by Klopp, installing Loris Karius as the then, first-choice stopper. This too in turn, chained events of a January exit as the player looked for vital minutes in order to make the Russia World Cup. Luckily, he was fortunate enough to have made it as a backup, after staying at the club with little minutes on the pitch.

Move on months and the move must happen

It’s now come to a point for Mignolet to press reset, as he falls down the pecking order. You’d think it go the other way around with him not the offender in the UCL final, however, time ran out a while back after receiving several chances from Klopp to keep his place as the starting keeper.

With Ward there, but also in search for a new home and Karius the designated number two, chances of starting a Premier League game, or cup game, will be a far stretch for the stopper – with him hoping one or two go off on a stretcher to make place. A fight for a starting berth can prove more than him just being a top stopper at the club, but could get him places worth the mention.

Though, this I can’t see transpiring with whom he’s up against. Liverpool’s style of play, high backline, unmatched by his speed – is all the works of goals and errors. Step right up… Here’s your goals and errors served up by the Migs platter.

Two clubs have been linked in recent weeks, making the Catalan club the biggest shock transfer to date. Yet, it’s understandable keeping in mind the rumours of their second choice, Jasper Cillessen wanting first team action and both, Chelsea and Roma are stop-less.

Barca will need a backup and Simon could provide enough cover, as keepers tend to stay fit majority of the time. Besiktas are knocking and are strong contenders for the Belgium number 2, with reports saying the asking price might be too much for the Belgian.

He will take leave from the club.
