England’s first match in the Round of 16 set them up for an easy quarterfinal a few nights back.

A 1-0 lead over Columbia was spoilt in the embers of the game when the goal a game defender, Yerre Mina (scored 3 goals in 3 games) put in a late header.

It was almost certain the Three Lions were not going to make it after heading into extra time and penalties. However, they proved themselves far more worthy for a spot in the quarterfinals, than their so-called golden generation and won in a dramatic shootout.

As said prior to the knockout stages, England’s battle in the Round of 16 would be tougher than their quarterfinal, which really was the case. The Swedish team who marched on in this tournament, displayed the perfect tournament team. However, they didn’t even put up a proper fight against the Three Lions.

This allowed Kane and co to cruise into the semifinals. This also demonstrates the better run England had compared to their rivals, who were also the winners of the group, Belgium. Who are evidently out.
