World Cup: David de Gea showing he’s human after poor Spain display in Group B
The English Premier League Golden Glove has so far turned up in his wooden gloves. What’s happening with one of the world’s best stoppers?
The two favourites to advance through to the knockout stages, struggled. Not just in attack but also in defence. No World Cup can be won with so many goals leaked in at the back. Between the two who advanced, first and second respectively, the two have conceded a combined nine goals.
Many questions have to be asked about Spain’s defensive problems and selection for that matter. It’s hard to fathom the 2010 world champions have conceded the most goals in their group (5), while topping by default. To put things into a better perspective for you, their group consisted of both, Iran and Morocco.

What’s the worst that could happen?
In this case the worst that could happen is major issue heading into the elimination round. For the European side, their keeper who’s suppose to one of the best, if not the best, failed at almost every attempt taken at him.
When I say almost all, I mean with exception to one stop made when they played their final group game against an unlucky Moroccan side.
The one stop was pivotal to the result that saw them clinch first place over rivals Ronaldo, oops! I meant Portugal.
Realistically, Russia should not be taken lightly. But in the same breath – Spain has the opportunity to get things sorted at the back during their Round of 16 clash.
Changes to help the wooden glove, de Gea
Somebody has to be sacrificed in that back four. You can not have one of the English Premier League’s best defenders sitting, soaking up the sun on the bench. Cesar Azpilicueta will offer better protection for the keeper.
That along with him being able to play anybody’s position of the back four, there should definitely be tap on his shoulder. David has been poor and needs to up his game as well. He needs to display the same brilliance he has over the past few seasons at Manchester United.
