Adapting a new style

It’s better late than never for Arsenal to join the new fad in world football – pressing.

We have all seen the success that Liverpool and Manchester City have had this season in the Champions League and Premier League respectively. Both sides play a high-intensity game which involves plenty of off-the-ball work, and structure in winning the ball back.

This is something that hasn’t existed in the Arsenal side in any way whatsoever under Arsene Wenger. This could be why he gained the title of a “dinosaur”. He simply failed to pick up on these new, innovative ideas that are breeding success in football.

Unai Emery can bring this style to Arsenal. They are in desperate need of it.

Since Arsenal seemingly have the individuals to become a pressing side, it’s a shame that Wenger never added some structure to it. Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere are two tireless midfielders that can do an effective job off-the-ball.

Ramsey has the engine to affect the game positively for an entire 90 minutes. Wilshere has the tenacity and that “never give up” mentality required for this style. The Gunners also possess two quick & tireless strikers that can drop deeper to engage with the press in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.
